Sailing Era Almanac

Beluget

Claiming to be an ordinary merchant, he owns several large merchant ships, and is in charge of the dirty slave-transit business. At sea, no one knows where he comes from or who he is, but he is valued and respected by all parties for the wealth he has acquired and his growing fleet.

Where to find them

St. George

Walkthrough

First recruitment — the impostor — Chapter 4 of the main quest

  1. Hear about the Minos fleet in a teahouse somewhere in West Africa.
  2. See the event at St. George — a young boy fleeing the Minos fleet.
  3. Find and defeat the Minos fleet at sea. They are a random NPC fleet you must attack yourself, with no event to start the fight, usually along the West African coast around Abidjan.
  4. Hear where he is at Sao Tome, then sail to Cape Verde to pick him up.
  5. The man who joins here is an IMPOSTOR. Our own Chinese source says so outright — 佛得角加入(伪), 'joins at Cape Verde (fake)' — and the guide describes a separate, later step to 'really recruit Belegut'. He sails with you for the rest of the chain regardless.

Family quest

  1. Level him up to trigger an event at sea about his ties to Maracaibo. Getting his first skill point is enough.
  2. Visit the mansion he used to live in, through the Maracaibo post. You must enter it twice, which can be done in one expedition.

Barbary pirates

  1. You are told to find the Barbary pirates and NOT told where to go. The game gives no destination here.
  2. Sail to Palma. Arriving is what triggers the next step — the condition is invisible.
  3. A priest joins and asks to be taken to Pisa. Only now does an explicit quest appear.
  4. Deliver the priest to Pisa, then follow the instruction to Algiers.
  5. At Algiers Beluget goes ashore and disappears for a while. Nothing tells you to wait.
  6. Put back out to sea. An event fires mid-voyage — the player was en route to Athens, and whether the destination matters is unknown — telling you to fight the pirates near Syracuse. Beluget rejoins around this point, just before the battle.
  7. Fight Dia Gamales near Syracuse. Winning leaves you a key to a vault in Algiers.
  8. Return to Algiers and open the vault. Inside is Saladin's Scimitar — Attack 45, Negotiation Lv.2 — which is Mustafa Amir's exclusive equipment.

Greek fire — the softlock

This is the only irreversible mistake documented for any ally. Do NOT complete the Greek Fire bounty until you have seen the aqueduct questline, or Beluget can no longer be recruited on that save.

  1. After the Barbary arc, you see a burning ship sail into a Mediterranean port. Travel to Istanbul and take the quest from Governor Kandali in the Royal Palace.
  2. An investigation questline about an aqueduct should trigger. If it does not, something is wrong — stop, and do not take the bounty.
  3. Travel a little north of Istanbul along the European side to reach the aqueduct.
  4. Take the bounty at the Royal Palace. It is called OCEAN FIRE FLEET in game, not "Greek Fire" — an urgent quest with no time limit, rated Peerless, hunting a pirate fleet in the Black Sea. You fight Cassone Stine Fotiya. Completing it pays 10,000,000 gold and +1,000 port contribution, actually recruits Beluget, and unlocks the Greek Fire blueprint.
  5. Expect a hard fight. Peerless is the game's top bounty rating and the player could not win it on a late-game fleet — treat this as a set-piece to prepare for, not a detour.

The game gives no journal entry for long stretches of this chain. Steps marked as played come from a firsthand account of this save; the rest from a community guide.

  1. Trigger on the West African coast → attack Minos at sea → the impostor joins at Cape Verde → then while sailing at level 30
  2. Trigger the event → explore outside Maracaibo → Valencia → Palma → Pisa → "Glory of Barbary" at Algiers → the "Sea of Fire" bounty at Istanbul
